Two of Oman's large racing yachts will be visiting Maldives from 11 - 16, February 2010, an invitation extended by Dr. Ahmed Ali Sawad, Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture. The purpose of this visit is to introduce Sailing in the Maldives and to see the possible international racing opportunities to be held in the Maldives in the near future. Sailing Association of Maldives is coordinating with the sail's team to host an information workshop for the interested locals, to learn about professional sailing. The boats will be anchored near Club Faru.
Musandam and Majan. both are state of the art, carbon fibre racing yachts crewed by a team of Omani trainees and international pro crew. The yachts are 23m and 32m respectively and both have a width of over 15m. Next February, the aim is for the boats to leave Oman to race around the Indian Ocean (Extreme Sailing Series Asia). This will include stopovers in South Africa, Australia and Singapore.
